A BODY has been recovered from the sea after it was spotted by the crew of a fishing boat.
Volunteers from Sunderland RNLI were called out by HM Coastguard at 1.20pm today after the body was seen about 2 miles south east of Sunderland’s harbour.
The crew found the body and transported it back to shore and were met by officers from Northumbria Police at the charity’s boathouse.
The recovery operation took around an hour to complete.
Helmsman Paul Nicholson said: “These types of incidents are very difficult for our volunteers to deal with and we are obviously concerned for the family of the deceased.”
Anyone who can help police with their inquiries can contact police on 101.
