A motorcyclist has admitted causing the death of a pensioner in a road smash.
Mary Gray was injured while out walking at South Hetton Road, Easington Lane, on May 20 last year.
The 76-year-old was airlifted to hospital in Middlesbrough but later died.
At Newcastle Crown Court David Marriner, of Frederick Street, South Hetton, pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving of his Honda motorcycle.
An original, more serious, charge of causing death by dangerous driving was dropped.
The case was adjourned until October and Marriner was granted bail in the meantime.
Judge Robin Mairs warned him: “The fact I am adjourning your case, on bail, and granting you a pre-sentence report is no indication of what the sentence will be.”
