Bid to see sentence cut rejected

A THUG who punched a young woman in the face before stealing the contents of her handbag has had his fight to slash his sentence thrown out of court.

David Michael Chapman, 24, was told by top judges that his 18-month jail term was not a day too long when he took his fight to London’s Criminal Appeal Court yesterday.

Chapman, of Athol Road, in Hendon, was jailed in July after pleading guilty to common assault, theft and assault with intent to resist arrest.

He had also injured a police officer who came to arrest him, hurling him against a glass door that shattered.
