FORMER Sunderland striker Darren Bent is helping police after his cousin was arrested on suspicion of stealing jewellery from the dead.

Richard Bent, who is a central London police officer, has been quizzed by detectives over a string of high-value thefts from crime victims who have died.

They are also investigating the theft of goods from the officer’s police station.

It is believed Bent claimed the footballer had bought him the jewellery and Darren is co-operating with detectives.

Richard Bent has been bailed until October.
