A FOOTBALL fan is to go on trial accused of trying to take a firework into a Sunderland game.

The Aston Villa fan, from Birmingham, was arrested on New Year’s Day, before his club’s match at the Stadium of Light.

His trial will take place at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court on June 20.

The 22-year-old was released on conditional bail and ordered to live at his home in Beilby Road, not to go within one mile of Aston Villa’s football ground one hour before any regulated match, and not go within three miles of any football stadium in England or Wales, three hours before a match involving Aston Villa.
