Assault, threatening behaviour and stealing speakers from university: The latest cases heard in court round-up

Jamie Toner, 30, of Russell Street, Jarrow, pleaded guilty to racially aggravated harassment and was given a 12-month community order, placed on a three-week curfew and ordered to pay a £90 surcharge.

Michael Stephen Violets, 49, of Barclay Street, was fined £80 after admitting threatening behaviour. He was told to pay £85 costs and a £32 surcharge.

Anthony George Whittle, 33, of Elizabeth Street, Sunderland, admitted assault and placed on a 12-month community order. He was told to pay £100 compensation and a surcharge of £85.

Brandon Robert Lee Cairns, 21, of no fixed abode, was jailed for 26 weeks for a string of offences. He admitted seven offences of stealing items from shops in Jarrow and South Shields. He was also ordered to pay £186 in compensation.

Jordan Cutter Douglas, 30, of East Vines, Sunderland, was jailed for four weeks after pleading guilty to receiving stolen goods. He must pay a surcharge of £115.

Samuel Mark Metcalf, 36, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to stealing speakers from the University of Sunderland, theft from a shop and two breaches of a prohibition order. He was told to pay £147.98 in compensation.

Charlotte Hewitt, 28, of Tower Street, Sunderland, was fined £40 after pleading guilty to assault. She was told to pay £85 costs and a £30 surcharge.

Michael John Tipling, 30, of Ashdown Road, Farringdon, Sunderland, was given a 12-month community order with 40 hours unpaid work after admitting breaching a restraining order. He was told to pay £85 costs and a £90 surcharge.

David Anthony Dixon, 34, of Dean Terrace, Southwick, Sunderland, was found guilty of failing to give information to police about a car driver. He was fined £375 and told to pay a surcharge of £37. He was also given six points on his licence.
