A SHOPLIFTER who is barred from every Asda in the country tried to walk out of one of the shops pushing a £400 television in a trolley.
Merrick Ainslie is banned from entering the supermarkets due to a history of bad behaviour.
But on June 4 he went into the Leechmere store in Sunderland and decided to help himself.
Prosecutor Emma Dowling told Newcastle Crown Court: “He paid for an item from the store then returned and picked up a plasma television, placed it in a trolley and attempted to leave without offering any payment.”
The 29-year-old was quickly collared by security staff.
Ainslie, who was on a suspended sentence order for previous offending at the time, admitted theft.
Judge Paul Sloan said that because Ainslie was now doing well on the suspended sentence order and responding to drug rehabilitation, he would not be jailed.
Ainslie, of Hill View Square, Hill View, was given a community order for six months, with supervision, and £200 court costs.
