TWO derelict homes were hit by arson attacks in separate incidents on the same night – with a further three targeted the next day.
Firefighters were called to Linnet Grove in Castletown at about 8pm on Saturday.
It is believed youths gained entry by prising back metal shutters, which were sealing the terraced building as it awaits demolition, and started the blaze.
Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze.
At 10.40pm, a team from Sunderland South were sent to a semi-detached bungalow in Broomhill Estate, Hetton, after it was also set alight.
Crews were again called to Linnet Grove at 3.50pm yesterday after other houses at different ends of the road were set alight.
Meanwhile, another team were called in to Oswald Terrace West, also in Castletown, at around 4pm after an empty home was broken in to and set alight.
