A CAR was set on fire in an arson attack in a Sunderland street.
It happened in Hopton Drive, Ryhope, when firebugs torhced a white Renault Megane.
The owner of the car quickly moved it away from his home to stop the blaze spreading to his property.
Two crews from Sunderland Central fire station rushed to the scene to put out the fire.
The car was written off in the incident, but luckily there was no damage to the house.
Detectives have confirmed that they are investigating who started the fire.
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: “Police received a call at 12.20am on Saturday because of a fire involving a white Renault Megane.
“There was substantial damage caused and it is being treated as arson.
“Officers are now carrying out house-to-house inquiries in an attempt to establish exactly what happened.”
