POLICE have praised the behaviour of visitors to this year’s Sunderland International Airshow.
The 23rd Airshow saw seafront crowds of more than one million people attending the event.
However, just 15 people were arrested over the weekend for low-level offences, such as breach of the peace and being drunk and disorderly.
Police had used extra patrols at the seafront to make sure the event passed without too much trouble.
Neighbourhood Inspector Lisa Musgrove, who covers the area for Northumbria Police, said: “As expected the airshow drew in huge crowds and we’re extremely pleased that the majority of people were just there to have fun and enjoy a good family day out.”
Tourism bosses estimated the festivities helped bring £12million to the city’s economy.
