A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after a family home was targeted.

The 41-year-old man was questioned and released on bail pending further investigations into the blaze, which happened in Windermere Road, Westlea, Seaham, at 11.45pm on Monday, May 6.

A CBR 600 motorbike was propped up against a wheelie bin, which was set alight and the fire spread to the back of the semi-detached home. Liam Sinclair, 20, and his sisters Kayleigh, 17, and Leoni, 14, were in the house at the time with their three dogs and fled thanks to the quick actions of two men.

They raised the alarm after spotting the fire as they headed home from the pub, where they had watched Sunderland’s 1-1 draw against Stoke.

The siblings’ brother, Andrew, 22, and sister Lexis, seven, were out at the time.
