Appeal for witnesses over attempted handbag robbery in Sunderland

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a knife-wielding man tried to steal a woman’s handbag.

The incident happened at around 4.30pm to 4.45pm on Wednesday, January 28, in Wearhead Drive in Eden Vale, near Durham Road.

The offender, who had a knife, approached the woman and demanded her handbag.

He made off empty handed after a witness went to help the victim.

The offender is described as 6ft tall, slender build, short blonde/ginger hair and was carrying a rucksack.

The woman was not injured in the incident, although she was left shaken.

Officers are carrying enquiries into the attempted theft and are appealing for witnesses.
