POLICE are hunting a mugger after a 17-year-old girl had her phone snatched on the train.

The teenager was travelling on the train heading towards South Hylton with her sister at about 4.10pm on Monday, October 22.

British Transport Police (BTP) said that when the train arrived at Pallion station, a man approached the victim and snatched her mobile phone from her hands before running from the train and out of the station.

Pc Mark Bradwell, of BTP’s Metro Unit, said: “The man was wearing a bright green hooded top with the hood up and stripes down the arms, and black trousers.

“The train was busy at the time and the man would have run past people on both the train and the platform, so I am confident someone would have witnessed the incident.”

Officers are trawling CCTV footage and are now calling on the public for more information.

“I would encourage anyone who was travelling on the train at the time and saw the incident, or the man running off, to please get in touch with us.”
