Appeal after Sunderland attack victim was left in need of major face surgery

A MAN from Sunderland needed surgery on his face after an attack in Durham.

Detectives are appealing for information after the assault outside the city’s Premier Inn in Freemans Place, Walkergate.

The victim, a 34-year-old, was attacked at 1.50am on Sunday July 27.

He was initially seen at University Hospital North Durham before being transferred to Sunderland Royal Hospital where he had extensive surgery to his face.

A 19-year-old man from the Wheatley Hill area was arrested a short time after the incident on suspicion of assault. He is currently on police bail while enquiries continue.
