A MAN had to be airlifted to hospital after he was injured in a hit-and-run near Durham.

The 55-year-old, from Brandon, was flown to Teesside’s James Cook Memorial Hospital after the accident in John Street, Meadowfield, at about 4.15pm on Sunday.

His condition was described as “stable.” Police have appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.

Sgt Neil Fuller, of Durham’s Road Policing Unit, said: “We are currently looking for a 4x4 or people carrier type vehicle.

“We believe the lower part of the vehicle may have been a darker colour than the main body, and it may have had a bike rack, or something similar, attached to its rear.”

Anyone with information can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
