A MAN kicked a door to pieces after a simmering row in which his girlfriend cut the tow rope of his broken-down car and left him stranded.

Kevin Orr, 25, was left angered when his partner refused to tow his car up a hill, when her engine started smoking due to lack of power, Sunderland magistrates heard.

Once back at the flat in Tilbury Road, Thorney Close, tempers flared, and when Orr refused to leave, police were called.

When the woman locked herself in the bedroom, Orr lashed out, kicking the bedroom door off its hinges and causing it to split. He admitted criminal damage.

Tom Morgan, defending, said: “He is sorry. It was done in the heat of the moment. He was in a bad mood having been left stranded in the town.”

Orr was given a six-month conditional discharge and told to pay £100 compensation to Gentoo, £150 court costs, £85 prosecution costs, and a £15 surcharge.
