A DRINKER was so angered by being ejected from a Sunderland bar that he attacked a doorman in the street outside.

Lawrence Sawyer, 28, threw a punch, which missed bouncer Michael Scorer, but then proceeded to kick him in the leg, Sunderland magistrates heard.

Sawyer had been drinking in Ttonic in Vine Place on March 29, when he was thrown out of the bar, prosecutor Paul Anderson said.

“The defendant had probably more to drink than was good for him and he’d been causing a bit of bother in Ttonic,” Mr Anderson said.

“Mr Scorer is a door supervisor and he asked him to come outside, there was a verbal altercation, the defendant not being particularly happy at being ejected from the pub.

“He tried to swing a punch at the doorman which he evaded without much effort, He then kicked him once on the leg.”

The doorman was not injured, the court heard and Sawyer, of Marbury Close, Moorside, admitted common assault.

He said: “It was out of character. I was taking a high dose of medication and I mixed it with alcohol and that was the result.

“I’m sorry about my actions.”

Sawyer was given a 12-month conditional discharge, and told to pay £50 compensation, £85 costs, and £15 surcharge.
