AN angry drinker caused £100 damage when he smashed a drinks dispenser at a Sunderland takeaway.

Steven Churchill lost his temper with staff in Red Chilli, in Holmeside, in the early hours of October 11, Sunderland magistrates heard.

The 30-year-old, of Lawson Court, started shouting and swearing after disagreeing with staff. In frustration, he lashed out at the drinks machine, which started leaking water on the counter.

Police arrived to arrest the father-of-two, who later pleaded guilty to criminal damage.

Michael Robinsson, mitigating, said: “The defendant had put money on the counter to order some takeaway food and then the money had disappeared. In his anger and frustration he punched the machine.

Churchill was fined £70, and told to pay £100 compensation, £85 costs and £20 victim surcharge.
