Wearsiders have reacted with anger after sculptures which are part of Sunderland Illuminations were damaged.
Vandals targeted alien and dinosaur figures in Roker Park over the weekend.
The Illuminations switch-on event took place on Saturday night, with city Paralmypian Matt Wylie and SAFC legends Jimmy Montgomery and Kevin Ball doing the honours.
But just hours later it was discovered that one of the alien figures is now missing, another alien had its left arm ripped off and yobs had also damaged one of the dinosaurs.
Council bosses say damage amounting to about £1,000 has been caused.
