SUSPECTED football hooligans were due to appear in court today after trouble at Sunderland’s pre-season friendly against Scottish side Hibernian.

Police made 11 arrests after targeting 13 homes across Edinburgh and Musselburgh in Scotland. The arrests came after trouble flared following Sunderland vs Hibs match in the Scottish capital in August.

The men face charges of breach of the peace, some of which were aggravated by religious prejudice.

They were expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.

It comes after eight arrests for breach of the peace and assault on the day of the match at Easter Road on August 6.

A total of 50 officers from Lothian and Borders Police and the national football unit took part in the operation.
