100 pigeons killed in Sunderland allotment fire as investigation launched into blaze

One hundred pigeons have been killed in a fire at a Sunderland allotment – with emergency services treating the blaze as suspicious.

Northumbria Police and Tyne & Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS) have launched an investigation into the fire, which happened on Sunday, March 15.

A spokeswoman for the fire service told the Echo on Monday, March 16: “Three pigeon crees had been destroyed by fire, killing approximately 100 pigeons. We believe the fire was started deliberately.”

Inquiries remain ongoing into the cause of the blaze, with members of the public urged to report any information to TWFRS or Northumbria Police.
