BRITISH soldiers are being backed by Durham County Cricket Club.

It will be support the Armed Forces Charity, Tickets For Troops, by providing 30 tickets for each day of its County Championship fixtures this summer at the Emirates Durham County Cricket Ground, Chester-le-Street.

The tickets are a mark of appreciation for the hard work and sacrifices servicemen and women make, offering an opportunity to escape the everyday stresses and strains of military life.

Former Durham and England star Sir Ian Botham, a Tickets For Troops patron, said: “Let’s get behind our troops.

“Let’s give them some support and let’s show them just how much we appreciate the dangerous job they do for us.”

Fellow patron Andrew Flintoff said: “I know exactly what the troops are going through from my recent experiences of travelling to Afghanistan to meet them.

“I was extremely moved by the whole experience and met some incredible people while I was out there.”
