EMERGENCY crews joined forces to help save a woman’s life.
A fire crew from High Handenhold was dealing with an incident in Chester-le-Street when a man living nearby called for help as his wife suffered a cardiac arrest.
While the firefighters alerted the ambulance service, they began to carry out life-support on the patient, which paramedics say probably saved the woman’s life.
Helen Briton, who is based at Seaham Ambulance Station, arrived with crew-mate Kirstine Manson.
She said: “When we arrived on scene our eye was immediately drawn to the fire appliance outside the address, and we were met by a firefighter who explained what had happened and took us inside.
“The fire crew did all the right things to treat the patient. The handover was smooth. However the fire crew didn’t just leave, they assisted in calming the husband.”
