YOUNG performers invaded a Wearside shopping centre as part of a creative project called The Big Mix.
The teenagers, from Arts Centre Washington, took over The Galleries at the weekend to offer their perspective on what life is like for them in 2013.
Actors, dancers, singers, visual artists, film-makers and drummers put on displays for shoppers throughout the day. Organisers say the event joined creativity and commerce to put arts at the centre of everyday life.
Helen Green, creative director of Arts Centre, Washington, said: “We are passionate about enthusing and inspiring young people in the arts. We are delighted The Galleries Shopping Centre teamed up with us for the Festival of the North East, giving us the opportunity to celebrate the artistic talents of so many of Washington’s younger community in a public environment.”
Galleries manager David McNee said: “We’re proud to be supporting young performers in the North East by providing an unconventional platform for them to showcase their talent to the public.”
