Court Round-Up: Speeding, assaults and stealing a drone from BHS
Keith Bingham, 48, of Marshall Wallis Road, South Shields, was convicted of stealing a remote control drone to the value of £150 from British Home Stores on October 28, last year. He was given a 12-month community order, with 30 days’ rehabilitation activity. He was told to pay compensation of £150.
Michael Wraith, 64, of Poplar Drive, Whitburn, was found guilty, after a trial, of an assault on January 29, 2015. He was fined £110 and was told to pay compensation of £75, a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £620.

Hide AdMichael Hiles, 44, of Hawthorn Street, Sunderland, was found guilty, after a trial, of failing to identify to police the driver of a vehicle, suspected of being involved in an offence, between July 17 and August 14, 2014. He was fined £450 and was told to pay a victim surcharge of £45 and costs of £150. His licence was endorsed with six points.
Linda Straughan, 56, of Sunnybrow, Silksworth, Sunderland, admitted driving a 60-reg Renault Megane at a speed exceeding 70mph on the A19 in North Yorkshire on June 28, last year. She was fined £105 and was told to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £85. Her licence was endorsed with 3 points.
Daniel Taggart, 22, of Hadleigh Road, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath after driving on Thorndale Road, Thorney Close, on October 31, last year, and breach of bail. He was given a 12-month community order, with 15 days rehabilitation activity requirement and 40 hours’ unpaid work. He was also told to pay a victim surcharge of £60 and costs of £85 and was banned from driving for 17 months.
David Smith, 29, of Cicero Terrace, Sunderland, was found guilty, after a trial, of an assault on December 1, last year. He was given a conditional discharge for 18 months and was told to pay a victim surcharge of £15 and costs of £650.
