Court Round-up: Fined over dangerous dog to stealing a saxophone from Cash Converters

Terry Nanson, 55, of Holly Court, Millfield, admitted being in charge of a white American bulldog which caused injury to another dog, while dangerously out of control in Marine Walk car park in Roker, February 20. He was fined £375 and was told to pay £101 compensation, victim surcharge of £38 and costs of £200. The court ordered that the dog is muzzled in public, or it will be destroyed.

Kayleigh Beattie, 28, of Buddle Terrace, Sunderland, admitted stealing a Series 5 straight soprano saxophone to the value of £300, from Cash Converters in Blandford Street, on January 7. She was given a two-year conditional discharge and was told to pay compensation of £300.

Lee Robinson, 39, of no fixed address, admitted assaulting a police officer at South Shields police station on February 5. He was jailed for six weeks and was told to pay compensation of £50.

Paul Phythian, 42, of Stephenson Street, Bensham, Gateshead, admitted stealing a number of items valued at £88 from Asda Boldon on January 7. He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and was told to pay victim surcharge of £15.

Mark Cooper, 36, of Park Place West, Hendon, Sunderland, admitted entering Nico Rossi Ltd cash and carry as a trespasser and stealing £63.10 of cash, October 16. He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and was told to pay compensation of £50, victim surcharge of £15 and costs of £100.

Michael Hopper, 36, of Gleneagles Road, Grindon, Sunderland, admitted drink-driving a Vauxhall Insignia on November 15, after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion in his breath was 97 microgrammes in 100ml. He was sentenced to a one-year community order with 20 days’ specified activity, with a victim surcharge of £60, costs of £50, and a 16-month driving ban.
