Scott Clydesdale, 40, a builder from Spennymoor, was using a £20 Sky Vegas bonus when he struck gold, turning £1 into £1,627,168 with just 125 spins.

Scott became the third Sky Vegas millionaire this year, following similar successes from Emma, a nurse from Stockton Tees, who won from a 20p spin, and Kristian De Moura Portugal from Hemel Hempstead.

With a national average salary of £26,500 it would take more than 60 years for the typical person to earn the figure Scott landed in his 23 minutes of magic.

Scott was presented with a cheque for £1.6m and limited-edition Sky Vegas millionaire champagne at the Redworth Hall Hotel, Durham.

He said: “When you see it on the screen, your heart’s telling you that you’ve won it but your head’s saying something’s going to go wrong.

“I’m a bit cynical and never thought that a real person won the big jackpots. Obviously now I know it’s real.

“I’m due to get married next year so this is going to help a great deal with that and we’re going to Florida.

“I’ve never had a holiday before – I’ve not got a passport. I’m a big darts fan and love watching Peter Wright so this win will allow me follow that more closely.”

Sarah Hackett, speaking on behalf of Sky Vegas, said: “Massive congratulations to Scott on picking up the £1.6 million jackpot and joining an exclusive club of Sky Vegas millionaires.

“In July, over £250,000 was won every hour at Sky Vegas, with £5,000 won every single minute.

“We have new games to play and jackpots in excess of a million waiting to be won as we speak, so it’s only a matter of time until we change somebody else’s life for good.”
