SCHOOLCHILDREN are to take charge as they carry out a clean-up.
The nine to 13-year-olds will spend tomorrow tidying the Denehouse area of Peterlee.
The event, which will run from 10am to 4pm, has already gained the youngsters sponsorship, which will be used to fund youth sessions in future.
The day is being run by East Durham Homes, with support from the police, councils and contractors.
Two skips will be put in place during the day so residents on the estate can clear their homes and gardens of rubbish.
Householders can also meet organisations to discuss issues from noon until 2pm, at Peterlee Methodist Church.
The young people will then head to the town’s leisure centre to take part in fun activities to round off the day.
