Costly move for Together for Children service

The £1.2million the council will have to borrow to fund the new offices for Together for Children at the city library is yet another of the bills that is coming in from the failure of children's services in the city.

Having just spent £500,000 on renovating the Fawcett Street site, and with plenty of space available at the civic centre, it seems a bizarre and costly move to now transform the former library into offices.

Sadly, this is a self-inflicted wound with extra millions of pounds having to be put into children’s services for new offices, IT systems and more social workers in order to improve it when money is scarce.
