CORONATION Street legend Bruce Jones, who played Les Battersby in the soap, officially cut the ribbon to launch the new Flossy Shop at Park Lane Market in Sunderland.

Owner Warren Burton said: “Bruce is a friend of mine and I asked him to come along.

“Flossys are a craze and fashion item that many people are starting to wear and are proving to be very popular here in the city.”

Bruce was greeted by hundreds of people buying the Flossy shoes.

Originally used as deck shoes for sailors, they are now a huge import into the UK from Spain.

Bruce was also in the North East to promote his new book, Les Battersby and Me, which has proved to be a success for the TV star.
