Consistency the key, says Wildcats boss

The Wildcats boast a 100% record in WSL2 ahead of their trip to Aston Villa this weekend, and Sanders believes a settled squad coupled with some quality additions has been the recipe for success.

Having finished sixth and seventh in their first two years in the league, three wins straight wins this year have seen Durham become the early leaders.

While Sanders is happy with the start his team have made, he’s keen not to get ahead of himself.

“Our target is to finish in the top four and that’s what it is at the moment.

“We’ve started well, but we know we’re only three games in.”

It’s been an impressive start for the Wildcats who have kept the core of last season’s squad together while adding experience in the shape of Becky Salicki and Sarah McFadden from Sunderland.

And Sanders believes that continuity has been key so far this season.

“I think we’ve always shown in little spells that we can be a good side,” he explained. “We’ve pretty much kept the same side we had last season and added a couple of quality players in McFadden and Salicki.

“The players have worked extremely hard and it’s a happy camp.”

Durham travel to face a tricky test at Aston Villa on Sunday.

“They’ll have done their homework on us so we expect a difficult game,” said Sanders.
