Concerns over care for elderly

Have your say

NEW research has shown two out of three Wearsiders aged 65 and over have a long-term health problem or disability that limits their ability to carry out day-to-day activities .

The new Care Act 2014 means local authorities will have to follow new rules determining who is eligible for care.

Age UK Sunderland say they are deeply concerned that the majority of older people who need help getting up in the morning, bathing, and preparing meals receive no help and will be holding their own consultation event on Friday at the Bradbury Centre in Stockton Road.

Alan Patchett, director at Age UK Sunderland, said: “Many older people who assumed they will benefit from the Government’s social care reforms will be shocked to find they may, in fact, receive little if any help at all.”
