Coastguard teams called to Ryhope Dene after a dog had fallen from a cliff

Coastguard teams from Sunderland and South Shields worked together to rescue a dog which had fallen off a cliff at Ryhope Dene.

Rescue teams from the Sunderland Coastguard and South South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade (SSVLB) were called to Ryhope Dene shortly before 3pm on Tuesday, February 16, after receiving a report that a dog had fallen from a cliff.

Both worked together, along with a cliff technician, to recover the dog and get it back up the cliff.

It is understood that the dog was uninjured during the incident and was reunited with its owner.

A SSVLB spokesperson said: “The team were tasked to Ryhope Dene to assist Sunderland Coastguard with a dog that had fallen over the cliff.

“We arrived and worked together to recover the cliff technician and the dog back up the cliff.

"The dog was uninjured and was reunited with its grateful owner.”
