Cleadon WI meets tonight in All Saints’ parish hall at 6.30pm. Visitors and new members are welcome.

The Friday Lunch Club takes place on Friday from 11am when there is coffee and biscuits and a time to catch up with friends. Afterwards, a two-course meal is served, followed by tea or coffee. This is a sociable community event and everyone is welcome. Transport can be available. Ring 5190582 if you would like to come.

The Married Couples Group of All Saints’ Church meets on Monday at 7.30pm. Last month they enjoyed a fascinating presentation about Marsden Colliery and Marsden Village, which has now disappeared. There were also excerpts from a black and white film “Life for Ruth” which was much appreciated.

The Cleadon Village Drama Club is presenting the comedy, The Decorator by Donald Churchill, directed by Liz Goodall, starting on Monday, and continuing throughout the week. Performances are at 7.30pm each evening and tickets are £6, available by ringing 4470493.

There is still time to register for the Bede’s Way Sponsored Walk on Saturday, June 25. This 12-mile walk leaves St Paul’s Church in Jarrow and ends at St Peter’s Church in Monkwearmouth. You can enjoy a fascinating glimpse into the cultural heritage and the varied landscape between the Tyne and the Wear and help Christian Aid to “fight poverty step by step”. A short stop will be made on Cleadon Hills, by the old mill, where refreshments will be served by members of All Saints’ Church. A Slimming World class takes place in All Saints’ parish hall on Thursdays at 9.30am and at 11.30am.

The Dokan Karate group meets in All Saints’ parish hall on Thursdays at 5pm for juniors and 7pm for adults. Anyone who would like to train in this sport can go along or phone 07939130411 for further information.

Lingo Kids, a language class for children, holds French and Spanish classes in All Saints’ parish hall, on Wednesdays in term-time. Classes are grouped according to age and experienced teachers help them to develop in communication skills and cultural awareness, providing a solid grounding for future studies.
