THE first Sunderland City 10k has been hailed a huge success.
The sun shone as runners made their way from the Stadium of Light across the city and back to Sunderland AFC’s ground.
Nearly 2,000 people signed up to take part in yesterday’s race, which organisers are hoping will be bigger and better next year.
Among those taking part was Pc David Rathband, who was blinded by gunman Raoul Moat. Pc Rathband, who started his career in Sunderland, said: “The people cheering me on from the side of the road were so friendly. It was lovely.”
As well as the main 10k event, there was also a junior run and two elite races on the day.
