A number of parties have expressed an interest with varying degrees of due diligence completed but no deal is thought to be close as things stand.

Coleman wants to stay at Sunderland to lead the promotion push back to the Championship but admits he needs some help and the tools to be able to achieve it.

Sunderland will be the biggest club in League One and Coleman believes he can create the right environment and platform for success but needs a plan and vision from above to help achieve it.

Coleman still hasn't spoken with owner Ellis Short despite taking charge in November.

"We are a League One team. We will have the biggest support, be the team to beat, blah, blah blah," said Coleman.

"It is not about that, it is about having a plan, a vision, creating an identity and an environment where it is vibrant, full of players who want to work hard and fight for each other over 46 games, then we have a chance to do something.

"I know I can create that platform, I have created it before but I need some tools and some help, we all do.

"We can’t do anything until we know what is happening above us."
