CHIIPPIE customers in County Durham could soon be able to buy booze with their fish lot.

An application has been submitted to Durham County Council for a premises licence to sell alcohol at the Fish and Chip Shop, Pelton Fell, Chester-le-Street, for consumption off the premises.

In his bid, which will be considered by the statutory licensing sub-committee on November 14, applicant Jaswinder Singh said he and his staff were aware of licensing objectives.

He added: “The staff are trained to refuse to sell alcohol to persons who are drunk or under age.”

However, the application has sparked a letter from Pelton Fell Community Partnership.

It said granting the licence will add to problems caused by youngsters downing booze bought by adults.
