A RESPITE home for children was evacuated after a fire broke out in a bedroom.

Fire crews were called to the home after the blaze broke out in the early hours of yesterday morning.

All children and staff escaped the 12-bedroom Cotswold Road home, in Hylton Castle, before fire crews arrived.

It is believed the fire had broken out in a downstairs bedroom although it is not thought to have spread.

It is not yet known what caused the blaze.
