Chief constable takes a break from catching criminals '“ to have a go at catching fish instead
He's more used to catching the bad guys, but Durham's Chief Constable Mike Barton recently joined young anglers as they attempted to catch fish.
Up to 10 young people, aged 11-16, got their first experience of fishing when they joined Pc Kev Woodcock at Seaham Marina.
Along with volunteers from Durham County Council, Pc Woodcock runs a project called ‘Somet Fishy’, which encourages youngsters to experience the joys of fishing. The aim
is to provide structured activities and pursuits to help divert young people from the risk of being caught up in crime or anti-social behaviour. Pc Woodcock took the new recruits through their paces and taught them the basics. Mr Barton also took part.
and saw for himself the benefits of Somet Fishy, which was established in January 2014.
