The Owls narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League last season, losing 1-0 to Hull City in the play-off final.

And in order to bolster their chances of going up this season, Wednesday are reported to be tracking players with experience of promotion from the second tier.

Forshaw, 24, made 34 appearances in Boro's promotion-winning campaign while 23-year-old Reach made 36 appearances and scored four goals during a loan spell at Preston North End.

Boro head coach Aitor Karanka is keen to improve his options in midfield and reports suggest he could be willing to let Forshaw and Reach leave on season-long loan deals.

Preston boss Simon Grayson is understood to be keen to see Reach return to Deepdale for the 2016-17 campaign.
