Cats Protection is getting ready to launch its new Gateshead base. But the charity's adoption centre is already packed with feline friends hoping to find their forever home.

One of the animals currently being cared for is Wilbur - a pet with a difference.

He is what's known as a polydactyl cat - with an additional digit on each paw.

Emzi Frater, Adoption Centre Manager, said: “Wilbur is a very special cat in every way so we’re looking for someone special that will give him the love he deserves.

"Although they may look a little unusual, the extra toes do not affect his health in any way and we know he’d make someone a perfect companion.”

The adoption centre will be open from 12pm on Saturday, July 14. There will be tours of the centre, a chance to meet some of the furry friends and refreshments.
