POLICE are appealing for witnesses after three vehicles were targeted by yobs in Houghton.
The first incident happened overnight between 9pm on Monday and 4am on yesterday.
Offenders stole front and rear registration plates from a Renault Clio car parked on Caldew Court in Easington Lane.
Then, at approximately 2.30am on yesterday there was an attempted theft of a vehicle in Cotherstone Court.
A parked locked Citroen was approached by a group of people who attempted to steal it. When they were unable to get it started and they attempted to tow it away using a rope attached to another vehicle, described as being burgundy in colour.
The Citroen was left in the road and the offenders made off from the scene.
Finally at 6.29am yesterday two unknown men entered a rear garden in Hill Terrace in West Herrington and forced a lock on a parked red Yamaha motorbike.
They then pushed the bike across the rear yard and made off across a road onto a field with it. People were seen nearby in a burgundy coloured vehicle.
Officers are investigating these incidents which may be linked and are appealing for help from the public.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “Police are carrying out house to house enquiries in these areas and additional officers are on patrol to reassure the community.
“Anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in these areas at the relevant time or may have any information which would assist officers, is asked to contact police.”
