Wyn Davison, who has helped others all her life, will reach the big milestone on July 22 and people from far and wide are being urged to send her a birthday card.

The family of Wyn made a similar appeal at Christmas, to make the festive season extra special for her, and hundreds of cards flooded in.

She got more than 400 cards from across Sunderland and as far away as Australia.

Now her nephew, Ron Clark, is hoping people will be as generous this time for her birthday.

He said: “It was amazing for her to get 400 Christmas cards. She was thrilled with it.

“I opened them for her and read them out to her and she really loved it.

“In fact, one of her old neighbours, who lives in Ashbrooke, saw the appeal and came to visit her. They hadn’t seen each other for about 50 years.”

Ron said Wyn is frail and struggles to walk, but it still alert and would be thrilled with the cards and well wishes.

At the moment she is in hospital recovering from an infection, but is hoping to be back in her Washington home soon, where she has carers going in every day to look after her.

Ron said during her life Wyn has done so much for others, that she deserves the cards.

Wyn, who served with the Women’s Royal Air Force, is Sunderland born and bred and was well known for working in a cake shop in Southwick for many years.

Ron said: “After she retired from that she used to deliver meals on wheels for years to elderly people, many of them were younger than her, and she did that until she was about 85.

“After that she would still go out and do collections for the air ambulance.”

Anyone who would like to send a card or letter to Wyn should address it, Wyn Davison, C/O Ron Clark, 98 Rowan Avenue, Washington, NE38 9AG. Ron will then take the cards to his aunt’s home for her and read out the messages.
