Her death sparked thousands of wellwishers to leave tributes on social media - but grief turned to anger when "disgusting" comments were left by an internet troll.

Now Northumbria Police say they have charged a man after upsetting comments were left.

A spokesman said: "This is an update in relation to comments made on social media about the death of Caitlin Ruddy. Martin Paul, who is 25, and from the Burnage Lane area of Manchester has been charged with a malicious communications offence."

He was due to appear in court today.
