Buyer still sought for Sunderland store

ADMINISTRATORS say they are still looking for a buyer to save a Sunderland store.

Accountants Ernst and Young are running TJ Hughes Limited and have announced plans to close 22 stores nationwide this month.

The Sunderland store, in High Street West, is not among them, however and its future remains uncertain.

Last week, the administrators announced the sale of branches in London, Liverpool, Eastbourne, Glasgow and Sheffield to Merseyside-based Lewis’s Home Retail.

Yesterday they confirmed the firm had reached a deal to take over two more stores, in Widnes and Newcastle, bringing the total number of jobs saved to 576.

A spokesman confirmed the Sunderland store will remain open for the foreseeable future and administrators were still hoping to find a buyer.
