STAFF at Washington’s Asda depot are looking to serve up a helping hand for the local community.

The supermarket giant’s CDC depot, on the Pattinson Industrial Estate, boasts a purpose-built meeting room which bosses are keen to see more widely used.

The firm has launched a new drive to promote community involvement for 2012.

Jan Hall is events co-ordinator at the Washington distribution centre.

She is responsible for overseeing the scheme locally: “We are launching our Community Life Initiative and one of the things we are doing is asking people to use us as a community centre.

“We have already had the Scouts in – they used the room for their AGM – but we would like to hear from anyone else who thinks they might be able to take up the offer.”

Anyone wishing to use the meeting room can contact Jan on 0113 826 8340, or email: janet.hall@asda.co.uk
