Train bosses unhappy at regulator

Have your say

TRAIN bosses in Sunderland says they are “surprised and disappointed” the rail regulator has put plans to expand their business on hold.

Grand Central – which operates Sunderland’s direct trail link with London – wants to introduce daily services from Blackpool to the capital from next year.

But the Office of Rail Regulation says it cannot approve the plans without a “full recast of the timetable” for the West Coast Main Line.

A spokesman for Grand Central said: “The significant support Grand Central received from Members of Parliament, local authorities, rail user groups and potential users of its proposed North Western service mean that there will be many communities along the route of the proposed new service that will share Grand Central’s deep disappointment.”
