The North East is a “poster child” for export and more regions should be following its lead, according to a Government Minister.
Trade and Investment Minister Lord Green said exporters, specifically smaller companies sending their products and expertise overseas, are at the heart of the Government’s plans for economic growth.
“Export is such as success story for the North East, we need to shout it from the roof tops,” he said. “The North East is the poster child for exporting.
“It is the only English region that is a net exporter of goods and services with an impressive £13.5billion of exports, proving that there is demand worldwide for what companies in the region have to offer.
“But the fact remains that the UK is behind the European average when it comes to exporting.”
