A WEARSIDE partnership is still bearing fruit, both parties said today.

After a number of major concert successes on Wearside, Sunderland AFC and Sunderland City Council have continued to work together in preparation for this summer’s visits of stars Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Gary Hutchinson, SAFC commercial director, said: “Sunderland City Council has been unwavering in its support of concerts at the Stadium of Light since we launched our first bid to attract major music events here back in 2009.

“Naturally, staging such shows and accommodating tens of thousands of people requires a huge logistical effort and its contribution to making that happen is fantastic.”

Sunderland City Council leader, Councillor Paul Watson, said: “Sunderland has quickly become established as a leading destination on the music circuit and it’s great that the city is reaping the rewards of that.”
