TWO Sunderland City Council initiatives have been successful in bids for cash from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund, announced by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg today.

The authority’s Sunderland City Deal Infrastructure Development, and Bringing Finance to Businesses in the North East programmes, are among 102 projects to be selected.

Also sharing the £506million funding pot, intended to create thousands of jobs across the country, is Sunderland-based pharmaceuticals company Molplex Limited.

Mr Clegg said: “I’m extremely proud to have found extra money to invest in projects across the country that have plans for the future.”
